-----------------------------------

ORIGINAL CONTEST:

Description:

You guys (and gals) are awesome, but at times we get people saying they want to be the Supreme Overlord of the Universe (that title belonged to me!), or want to introduce Vampires and Werewolves into Econosia. (such heresy!)

My problem is: How do I keep them muted for a few minutes without using "major Godly powers" such as silencing?

"Minor Godly powers" are acceptable - such as turning their Q0 apples into Q50 water.

Creative solutions are even better.

Up to 3 winner will be selected and each will receive 1000 influence points + a Badge of Wisdom (with a high Q)

Deadline:
Sat., April 7, 6:00 P.M.

Put the offender in control of a company (and just this company, temporarily) whose networth is exactly 1 dollar.

This is essentially a lockout, but scary.

Arbitrarily change B2B prices of items to below export very occasionally so people are constantly checking B2B and Export prices in an attempt to make a profit.

Or write a really long news post so they're busy reading instead of talking about Bad Ideas

You are a programmer aren't you? Write some code to fix it!

:)

Seriously what would be cool if for people to be able to vote or flag someone they feel has went over the edge. If a certain number of people flag you you get a period of time that chat is disabled. Along with a nice popup of course letting the person know that HR has had some complaints about the water cooler behavior and that it should be avoided. Maybe if it happens to often to the same person they get longer suspensions of chat functionality.

Give them a free superstore and a 500 of every product it sells.

Navigating the selling UI will keep them quiet for about an hour.

I think Introduce the karma system in game too and combine them.
Karma Peacekeeping Idea below

when looking at a players page there can be a button for report abuse
and a button for being really helpful. (thumbs up icon - thumbs down)((or something like))

each player ON ANYONE can only press 1 dislike or like every 24 hours/daily server reset

everytime you get disliked (voted down) you lose 1 karma
If 3 players or more vote you down in the same day - that player loses 20 karma

At less than 20 karma when you try and load the chat box is says
"unfortunately bad people cannot mix with the rest of society - be nicer"
they could be locked out of chat for a set amount of time - 30mins/1hour/1day = your choice

Players can get 1 karma daily or gain more by being useful and pleasant on the forums.

Thus you have a player regulated report abuse/shutup system and a bonus for being nice.
One day you could even trade in karma for a prize for being so nice or helpful.

It doesnt have to be the same as the forums but it would fit nicely with the theme of togetherness and cooperation i think you are going for in this game.

zxektok, your idea is okay but it's totally abusable by groups for nefarious purposes. A karma system would be terrible and would result in bigger companies effectively muting smaller companies because they, the bigger companies, have more karma.

I'd suggest a brief cooldown as the company registers are being searched by the tax office and the player recieves a fine based on x% of the players personal wealth for tax evasion. So effectively you'll have a player that can't do anything ingame (for 5 minutes, an hour or a day) because 'tax office agents are checking the ledgers' and afterwards they get a fine for tax evasion or other discrepancies that were found in the books.

It effectively simulates a real situation (tax control, which happens IRL) and mutes the player for a certain period and gives him/her a slap on the wrist.

Use a time-lottery system whereby for every minute a person is silent, they get a ticket placed into a lottery where other silent people are playing.
Every time you speak you get one ticket taken out of the lottery, so the longer you are silent, the more chance you have of winning the lottery.
The prize for the lottery which would be given out every Saturday would be the chance of having a tab under the http://www.ratjoy.com/eos/index.php where they would be able to spam and chat and talk nonsense to themselves as much as they like. This would last one hour, and even though that hour would be fairly irritating - at least they were quiet for a whole week.

I don't think the point of this is to use the chat less, but to increase the quality of the chat.

For public company owners, you could put in a slight "panic" variable that would (slightly!) negatively affect the price of companies they own. No one likes seeing their stock price go down even a few cents.

For private owners, perhaps a percentage increase in their loan interest rate for the next tick.
